"What?" Holly found herself echoing in the bathroom when she got the call from Stevie. "Are you really serious? You're going to sub for your mom at the base daycare?"
"Why not?" He said he was tired of waiting on interviews to happen and then all the paperwork that went with it. "Just wait until you lose your job, you might think differently," Stevie told her.
She sighed and shook her head. What was the world coming to? Letting somebody like Stevie babysit. "But it's the airforce base?" She winced hard. "What if you get in some kind of trouble?" She doubted he was certified to be there.
"I've taken some babysitting courses at the library." He sounded as if it was no big deal. It was something mandatory from his mom. After all, she always paid for the classes. "Maybe..maybe she knew this would happen one day."
"I just don't see you at a daycare," Holly hated to be a downer about it.
"Hey, it's a step up from fast food," Stevie guessed. "Look, I'm only doing it for a day. I doubt they asked me back."
"Boy, you're just asking for trouble," Holly tidied up a little, but not a lot. She knew any minute Carrie would be snooping around here wondering why she was taking so long in the bathroom. Actually, she was seeing what Carrie might have left in the bathroom, or moved. But all her medications were in the medicine cabinet and Carrie hadn't bothered with any of Holly's beauty regiment.
"I don't know why I called you," Stevie then said.
She didn't want to hear that. She had to fill him in on Carrie's job. She leaned her butt against the bathroom sink. It was best to have a private chat on the phone with her trusty Stevie.
"I just don't know if I like that bunch Carrie has to deal with," Holly finally made herself comfortable sitting on the edge of the pink bathtub. She looked up at the puffy clouds on the bathroom ceiling. Truly it could have been an old museum, but she did have some lovely bubble baths here.
"At the salon?" Stevie asked.
"I dropped in a couple of days ago," Holly told him. "Just to check it out. You know, see what her boss was like." Holly made a face of disgust as she was checking out her long polished nails. Seriously, she wished Carrie had done them.
"What happened?"
"I just know that Elaine is a bitch from hell. I can just feel it," Holly said as she crinkled her nose as she inspected her nails. Hell, she'd just wanted to claw that skinny bitch. "The way she was ordering Carrie around. I could hardly take it."
"Does she work with anyone else?" Stevie wanted to know.
"Well, there was this boy," Holly rolled her eyes. "I'm sure he's no help to Carrie. He's just that Elaine's YES boy."
This part is so cool: "She looked up at the puffy clouds on the bathroom ceiling. Truly it could have been an old museum, but she did have some lovely bubble baths here." It really matches the aesthetic in the collage! As for Carrie, sorry to hear that her boss may be a B. But workplaces rarely turn out to be what they seem. I'm confident that Carrie can cope with anything.
